Who's involved
- OpenAI
- The company that makes ChatGPT.
- On October 7 it announced a new GPT-6 model for every ChatGPT plan and a new way for ChatGPT to answer, and it decides which plans get them when.
- TechCrunch
- A technology news site.
- It reported on OpenAI's launch call with reporters, and it gave the Free and Go date as Thursday.
What changed
OpenAI, the company that makes ChatGPT, says a new GPT-6 model can build you a calculator while you chat. OpenAI calls the feature Intelligent UI. A UI, short for user interface, is the screen you read and tap, and here ChatGPT builds that screen around your question. It can answer with buttons, forms and charts, and it can make a small tool on request, such as a savings calculator or a bill splitter. You use the tool right in the conversation.
So does your ChatGPT plan get it this week? The plan decides when. OpenAI says GPT-6 with Intelligent UI, the new screens it builds for you, started rolling out on October 7 to the Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise plans. Starting the next day, Thursday, it expands to the Free plan and the lower-cost Go plan. On Enterprise, OpenAI says availability depends on your workplace admin's settings.
The format depends on your question. A comparison can sit side by side. An explanation can be an interactive diagram. When plain text is the best answer, OpenAI says ChatGPT can still just write.
On a call with reporters, an OpenAI product manager said ChatGPT "has predominantly been a text-based interface," TechCrunch reports. TechCrunch also says you will be able to dial the visuals back if you want fewer of them.
What's at Stake
More than 1.2 billion people use ChatGPT each week, OpenAI says, and GPT-6 is built for all of them.

The System Underneath
OpenAI built a ChatGPT that answers with buttons, forms and charts, and it turns the new model on plan by plan, so your plan sets when it arrives, and on Enterprise admin settings matter.

Why it matters
For a business that runs on ChatGPT, this is a tools question. OpenAI says paid customers got the first GPT-6 models last month. This release is a new one, built for everyone who uses ChatGPT. People on Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise get a version OpenAI calls Sol. People on the Free and Go plans get one it calls Luna. OpenAI says both are tuned for everyday conversation, and its post does not compare how the two differ in ability.
OpenAI's post names no price. It also says the models behind its Work and Codex tools are not changing in this release, so the change is to the chat you type into.
For questions that need a web search, OpenAI says GPT-6 Instant starts answering 44% sooner, on average, than its earlier GPT-5.6 Instant. The figure is OpenAI's own claim. OpenAI also says there is still work ahead to improve the model's design judgment, which is how well it chooses what to show you and how to lay it out.

Start with what you can check today. Look at which plan each person on your team uses. OpenAI says the rollout expands to the Free and Go plans starting the next day, which TechCrunch gives as Thursday. If you are on Enterprise, ask your workplace admin whether it is switched on.
Then try the new part on one real job. OpenAI's own examples are a savings calculator and a bill splitter. Ask for one and run a case where you already know the answer. OpenAI's post makes no claim about whether the tools it builds get their numbers right, so a known answer is how you would find out.
So the choice in front of you is small: whether to have one person try a calculator on a job where you know the answer. OpenAI says its goal is that "software will adapt to people." This is a way to see whether it does for your team.
