Information we handle
When you sign in with Google, we receive your email address, Google account ID, display name, and profile photo. Your Google account ID lets us recognize the same reader if your email address changes. Signing in creates a reader account with a public username that you can change. We also store your newsletter notification preference. When you comment or react to a story, we keep the contribution and records needed to display and moderate it. Our website receives ordinary technical information needed to run, protect, and measure the service.
How we use it
We use this information to provide reader accounts, show and moderate comments and reactions, remember preferences, protect the site, and understand readership. A public comment can show your username and the words you post. Service providers help us host the site, store reader accounts and email choices, sign readers in with Google, measure website use, and deliver email if it resumes. Vercel provides aggregate traffic counts. Google Analytics measures pages and campaigns, and you can change its setting in Privacy choices. It is on by default for US visitors and off until accepted elsewhere. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control privacy signal, Google Analytics stays off.
Email choices
The newsletter is not currently being sent. If you join the weekly email list or turn it on in your account, we save an active subscription preference for delivery when it resumes. You can turn it off in your account at any time. Before sending resumes, we will update the site with the planned schedule and how to unsubscribe.

Links to other websites lead to services with their own privacy practices. If this policy changes, we will update the date at the top of this page.
